Dashi Food Truck at the Charleston Farmer's Market

stirfry alldone

The Farmer's Market in Charleston is a wonderful place to go if you're ever in the mood for something good! Open every Saturday morning, the farmer's market brings in several food trucks and vendors from around the peninsula. One of my personal favorites is a little place called Dashi. My friend and I ran over there one Saturday to have a taste of their Tofu Stir-Fry, and can I just say it was AMAZING! It came with fresh veggies and crispy tofu, and as you can see I certainly enjoyed it! The dish cost about $9-10 but it's totally worth the while!

Back Again... ... at the Charleston Farmer's Market

juice tomatoes

The Farmer's market is seriously one of my favorite places to go in Charleston! There are so many vendors and people out, and there's such a happy vibe! I mean, truly there is nothing like going shopping for your fruits and veggies at the Farmer's market! This particular day, my friend and I grabbed some smoothies from a place called Juice Joint, and they were delicious! I had an apple, mango, and pineapple smoothie that was so sweet and hydrating! I would recommend it!

October

Gnome Cafe

taco

So you'll definitely see several Gnome Cafe posts, because this little find happens to be my favorite place to eat on the entire peninsula! It's not often that you come across places that are COMPLETELY 100% vegan! And this place is! This is one of the healthier options on the menu, a taco salad with seasoned lentils, corn relish, tomatoes, beet slaw, and the most incredible dressing ever! It's a little pricey at about $13, but totally worth the while!

November

Starbucks and Fire Street Food!

starbucks

Starbucks may seem like an impossible place to get a drink at when you're vegan, but in actuality, it's not! Not too long ago, Starbucks started providing the option of switching regular milk with almond or coconut milk! It made the holiday season so much more enjoyable! I personally love the Peppermint Mocha with coconut milk, with no whipped cream or chocolate shavings on top. Seriously, so delicious and definitiely makes the holiday season so much brighter! But, be careful what you order, and always ask the baristas if certain drinks are vegan! Some of the syrups that are used are not vegan, so you can't replace all drinks with a non-dairy milk and think you're good to go. Do your research, and ask questions!

December

Gnome Cafe

bagel

So this bagel is my most favorite thing on the Gnome menu! It's called the Mushroom BLT, priced at around $8, and totally worth the try! Instead of bacon, the bagel is topped with smoked mushrooms that would make any non-vegan or vegan drool! It also has vegan mayo, lettuce, and tomato. Seriously, you NEED to give this a try!

January

Gnome Cafe

sandwich

I don't know if you can tell, but this sandwich-mac and cheese combo is so tasty! This is the Tempeh Reuben, with the vegan mac and cheese on the side. Tempeh is like a meat substitute, and is made of unprocessed soy. It's very tasty when seasoned correctly! Along with the tempeh is vegan swiss cheese and sauerkraut! So good! And the mac and cheese... is like nothing you have ever tasted before! It's so smoky and creamy, you would think it's real cheese! You have to order this sometime if you're ever feeling like being wowed!

February

Gnome

peanut

What can I say, Gnome is my favorite restaurant in the whole world. And I think it's pretty obvious why I feel this way. I mean, c'mon, VEGAN REESES CUPS? Does it get any better than that? This dark chocolate cup was filled with homemade pb filling, lightly salted with sea salt, and definitely hit the spot!

March

Olilo

olive

So this build-your-own mediterranean bowl place just opened this March, and I've gotta say I'm super impressed! It's always great when another vegan option is added to the school's menu! This is a picture of mixed greens, warm falafel, pickled red onions, banana peppers, and carrot slaw drizzled in tahini dressing. It was really good and the staff was so helpful and accommodating when I asked about what was vegan and what wasn't. It costs about $10 per bowl, or more depending on your add ons. I definitely recommend it!

April

Avila

avila

I just recently discovered this wonderful place, and I'm so sad since I'll be leaving Charleston pretty soon. I grabbed the "Plato" which came with marinated mushrooms and red peppers, black beans, rice, tostones, which are fried plantains (delicious!), and a heap of lettuce. It cost me around $12 for this entire meal, and it was well worth it! I especially recommend the tostones!
